Our conservation-trained roofing team has completed phase one of a major slate and lead restoration on a Grade I listed property in Cumbria — a building with documented associations to Beatrix Potter.
Phase one covered the main west-facing pitch. Around 40% of the original slates were successfully salvaged and re-laid; the remainder were matched with regional replacements from the same quarry that supplied the original build. Lead detailing was renewed by hand in code-appropriate weights.
Working under Listed Building Consent
Every replacement material and every method was agreed in advance with the conservation officer. Progress was photographed and logged at each stage — the paperwork is part of the job, not an afterthought.
Looking ahead
Phase two starts next month and covers the north-facing pitch and the chimney stack pointing. We expect the full programme to complete before the winter storm season.
